The Rosie the Riveter Movement

DETAILS: Social Media Intern LOCATION: Cross Lanes, WV TIME: 7 hours / week.

Social Media Manager. You must care about connecting people within and across communities, in order to:

1. Build knowledge and respect for America’s Rosie the Riveters – women now in their 90’s who worked on the home front during WWII.
2. Build knowledge about and participation with the Rosie the Riveter Movement.
3. Draw on the importance of cooperative work with individual “Rosies” and communities
4. Represent Rosies and communities while building a distinctive big-picture view on emerging media.

Social Media Manager will improve and expand our social media presence on every platform. You should have:

1. Strong management skills to help organize and present content on social platforms.
2. Ability to create compelling postings that build loyal communities who work “Rosies.”

What You'll Be Doing:

• Develop and execute a social media strategy that engages the public, leaders in many sectors, and others.
• Create and oversee short-term work
• Help plan long-term social media calendar in conjunction with events and other work of Thanks! You will work closely with our webmaster and help to plan and start a blog, newsletter and social media channels.
• Manage daily presence on social networking platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram), including weekly monitoring, posting, and content development.
• Implement and manage a social media production and analytics tools, and communicate metrics and best practices to key stakeholders and production team.
• Liaise with the media and other digital producers about upcoming events, plans, needs, etc.
• Create, and edit social media content (Facebook Live events, live-tweeting events, animated GIFs, etc).
• Advise on emerging trends and launch new social media accounts as needed.
• Work with “Thanks!” to identify grants, donors or sponsors to support continued work

• Interest to collect, organize, and post photo, facts, comments, and plans.
• Ability to attract those in journalism, communications, history, business, or marketing, volunteer managing.
• Demonstrated success to create engaging social content that builds loyalty and broader reach.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate closely with others.
• Proficiency with a range of social media platforms and awareness of new platforms.
• Writing skills that show thinking and originality and willingness to have work edited.
• Attention to detail, organizing and time-management skills.

About Thanks! Plain and Simple

Thanks! Plain and Simple (“Thanks!”) is a West Virginia non-profit organization that has created The Rosie the Riveter Project which is growing into the International Rosie the Riveter Movement. The mission of “Thanks!” is to create projects where people: cooperate to do work needed in America, and inspire others in many places to follow and join us. Work has spanned seven years, and successes include:

1. Designed and completed 20 different projects that people everywhere can repeat and improve;
2. Designed and widely shared several learning tools and methods (e.g. a documentary film, completed interviews, original music about Rosies approved by Rosies for feeling and content).
3. Gained local, regional, national and international media coverage (ask for bibliography)
4. Gained international cooperation and respect from the Allied Nations (Belgium, Britain, the Netherlands).
5. Interviewed at least 80 Rosie, via video and audio, and many others in writing.
6. Proved that a small nonprofit in a state without national power can make needed change in society.

The long-term goal of the Rosie Project is that a movement will succeed at raising considerable public awareness and cooperation, and it will be seen as a model for social change without blame and splintering people into factions. The motto that guides us is taken from the mantra that Rosies followed during the war:

“We pull better when we pull together!”
